Endorsement of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani

Acropolis Review is proud to endorse the candidacy of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for the Republican nomination. Mayor Giuliani is indisputably the most liberal of the viable Republican candidates. His vigorous support for liberalism in the Middle East and understanding of world affairs make him a better candidate for the presidency of the United States in this troubled period in world affairs than some of the pacifist leaders currently seeking to represent the community of American progressives from the Democratic Party side of the political spectrum. However, Mayor Giuliani's commitment to the principles of liberalism championed by the founders of this Republic is not confined merely to his support for the liberalization of Iraq and Afghanistan. Mayor Giuliani proved through his government service in New York City that his commitment to liberal values is long-standing, pragmatic and of principled conviction.
Notwithstanding the existence of some residual confusion on the consistency of his most liberal positions, Mayor Giuliani takes the most liberal view of contemporary civil rights struggles among the leading Republican candidates for the nomination.

Mayor Giuliani has a record of expansive liberalism on women's 9th Amendment rights in matters of personal choice:

"Because the Republican Party stands for the idea that you have to restore more freedom of choice, more opportunity, more opportunity for people to make their own choices rather than the government dictating those choices," said Giuliani.

At a moment in history when the United States Supreme Court is preparing to hear what could be a landmark case involving the contemporary meaning of the Second Amendment and the right of the city of Washington, D.C. to regulate the flow of firearms within its borders, Mayor Giuliani has a record of bold liberalism concerning the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms which will certainly be at issue in Senator Cornyn's efforts to maintain his position as the junior United States Senator from Texas:

The former mayor told Hannity that gun control was "appropriate" for the city, but that states and cities should be allowed to make those decisions locally.
"So," Hannity continued, "you would support the state's rights to choose on specific gun laws?"
"Yes, I mean, a place like New York that is densely populated, or maybe a place that is experiencing a serious crime problem, … maybe you have one solution there and in another place, more rural, more suburban, other issues, you have a different set of rules."

Mayor Giulani has a record of path-breaking liberalism on civil rights for gay Americans:

"I just don't see Rudy Giuliani being able to sway conservatives within the
Republican Party," says Michael Long, chairman of the New York state
Conservative Party. "The gay marriage issue draws a line down the middle of
the street, and Rudy Giuliani is something of a champion of gay rights."

Beyond his courageous defense of liberal values at home in the United States, Mayor Giuliani understands and appreciates the seriousness of the threat posed by Usama bin Laden and other religious extremists.

Due to his solid support for the nation in the Middle East most committed to liberal governance and our important ally and friend - Israel - last year, Mayor Giuliani was named the "'best' candidate in the 2008 race for Israel," according to a panel of experts assembled by Haaretz.
Mayor Giuliani speaks boldly and often in support of his views on freedom.

Mayor Giuliani has shown robust commitment to prevailing in the struggle to capture and kill Usama bin Laden, destroy Al Qaeda and reverse the allure of terrorism worldwide.

Rudy Giuliani believes winning the war on terror is the great responsibility of
our generation. America cannot afford to go back to the days of playing defense,
with inconsistent responses to terrorist attacks, because weakness only
encourages aggression. Americans want peace. We’re at war not because we want to
be, but because the terrorists declared war on us—well before the attacks of
September 11th. Rudy understands that freedom is going to win this war of ideas.
America will win the war on terror.

Unlike some of his progressive opponents who are strikingly silent on the subject, Mayor Giuliani also understands the power of the third branch of our government - the judiciary - to influence the making of important policies through its participation in the making of law.

He understands the responsibility the President has to appoint and nominate
federal judges. The kind of judges he has said he would appoint are strict
constructionists like Justices Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito ...

The opposition Mayor Giuliani faces from the most conservative opponents of progress at home and in the struggle against terrorism in the Middle East confirm his stature as the most liberal top tier candidate for the Republican Party nomination for the presidency. For all these reasons, Mayor Giuliani merits the support of committed progressives in this primary season in our national effort to return the course of the nation back to the pragmatic center. Acropolis Review is proud to support Mayor Giuliani's effort to win the nomination to represent the Republican Party in the general election season.
American progressives worldwide are encouraged to donate to Mayor Giuliani's campaign here before the end of the primary season.
