For a glimpse at the tension that exists in Washington currently between the admirers of the two candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for the presidency, the video showing Chairman & CEO of J.P. Morgan James Dimon who recently spoke at the Economic Club of Washington in the presence of its president (and friend of former president Bill Clinton) Vernon Jordan is instructive. (Vernon Jordan is author of Vernon Can Read!: A Memoir)
During the question and answer section of his remarks, Jack Lippert of the Washingtonian asked Dimon: “As a Democrat, what differences do you see between, ah, Senators Obama and Clinton?”
Nervous laughter.
Jamie Dimon offered an answer to the indelicate question with Vernon Jordan standing at his side with a look of solemnity. Starting with a look of intense tension that graduated to a mischievous grin, Mr. Dimon stated: “You know, uh, as a Democrat, um, you know first of all I think they’re both seems to me to be very qualified individuals, hard-working, uh, eh, other than that I’m not gonna answer the question.” Beaming smile from Vernon Jordan accompanied by a look of relief. Uproarious laughter erupted from the audience. Dimon then asked a member of the audience to pass him a napkin to wipe the sweat from his brow.
